Lance was raised in central Connecticut. After graduating from Texas A&M with a degree in business, he returned to Connecticut to work successfully as an investment banker. It wasn't until an encounter with Robert Denton, a vibrant 92 year old blacksmith that changed his life's work and set him on the path to forging iron. Lance began to develop a style of his own. Shaker and Asian simplicity of form and proportion appealed to his sense of understated design. Lance's creativity flourished as he honed his skills daily turning raw iron into stylish hand-wrought pieces. His portfolio now includes; dining and coffee tables as well as ocasional tables, a wide variety of candle sticks, mirrors, lamps, wine racks, sculptures, fireplace tools, household hardware and a variety of custom pieces. The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen have been a continuing support system for Lance. It's ability to nurture craftsmen as well as their high standard of excellence and being able to gage the public's acceptance of new design has always been invaluable to him. Lance has been on the board of directors and is currently on the standards committee for forged iron. Countless hammer strokes and 37 years later, Lance still forges simply because he enjoys it. |
